JAMES RIVER, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, approximately one-gallon capacity, ovoid form with rounded rim, incised shoulder ring, and applied arched handles. Brushed cobalt stylized tadpole-like design to each side, additional cobalt to handle terminal. Possibly John P. Schermerhorn (1788-1850), Richmond Factory, Henrico County, VA. 1817-1837. 9 1/4" H, 5 1/2" D rim.Condition Excellent visual condition, having some areas of professional restoration including spots on handles and rim.
