PARR FAMILY ATTRIBUTED RICHMOND, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, "2" gallon capacity mark, semi-ovoid form with squared rim, applied arched tab handles. Brushed cobalt horizontal flower to each side, additional cobalt to handle terminals. Attributed to David Parr Jr. (1819-1882), or John L. Parr operating the Richmond Pottery Co. (after 1866-1890), Richmond, VA. Third quarter 19th century. 11 3/4" H, 6 1/8" D rim.Literature: Stamp as Mueller-Heubach - From Kaolin to Claymount: Landscapes of the 19th-Century James River Stoneware Industry, College of William and Mary doctoral dissertation, 2013, p. 188, fig. 105 top row, fourth.Condition Having a radial hairline to lower front and a chip to foot edge. Manufacturing flaws including slightly slumping rim and a kiln kiss to back, as made.
