ASSORTED NEW ENGLAND COIN SILVER SPECTACLES, LOT OF SEVEN, each with oval lenses, sliding-pin or telescoping extension temples, arched or scrolling bridges, marks comprising: "NEWBURY", "PEIRCE" stamped twice, "E. ACKLEY", "AMMIDOWN", "D.D. MOODY", "E.E. BAILEY" with the letter "Y" mostly cut off, and "HYDE". Various makers. First half 19th century. 4 3/4" LOA.Literature: Ammidown is discussed in J. William Rosenthal - Spectacles and Other Vision Aids, p. 55, fig. 77.Condition Very good condition, with some routine wear and tarnish to surfaces; a few with cracks or breaks primarily to loop ends of temple extensions, a couple with loose replacement pins or old repairs; Moody with one cracked lens and Newbury with one temple extension missing; Bailey having been twisted and bent around the bridge but seemingly unbroken.
