PARR FAMILY ATTRIBUTED, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JARS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, each of cylindrical form with squared rim, comprising a "1" gallon capacity mark example and a "2" gallon capacity mark example. Each having brushed cobalt dropped feather decoration repeated four times from neck. Attributed to David Parr Jr. (1819-1882) or John L. Parr operating the Richmond Pottery Co. (after 1866 -1890). 1860-1890. 10" H, 6 1/2" D rim to 12 3/4" H, 7 1/2" D rim.Literature: Parallels Jenkins - Ceramics in Virginia, p. 27, fig. 1.16.Condition "1" gallon example having a chip to top of rim; "2" gallon example having a radial crack extending from base and across half of lower body with two minor associated losses, a moderate chip to rim on back.
