OHIO STONEWARE JARS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed with Albany-slip glazed interior, comprising a stamped "C.J. MERRILL" example with cobalt across stamp and to one handle terminal, approximately one-gallon capacity, ovoid form with slightly flaring rim and applied arched handles, and a stenciled cobalt "JAS. BENJ[A]MIN / STONEWARE / DEPOT. / CINCINNATI, O" example, designated two-gallon capacity, cylindrical form with flat-top rounded rim. Calvin J. Merrill, Summit County; James Benjamin, Cincinnati, OH. 19th century. 9 1/2" H, 5" D rim and 11 1/4" H, 7 1/4" D rim.Condition Benjamin example undamaged, having some light staining from use; Merrill example having some shallow rim chips/flakes.
