STAMPED "MT. CRAWFORD / VA.", SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, "1" gallon capacity mark, cylindrical form with rounded shoulder with incised ring, slightly flaring mouth with a pronounced bead below, straight cut-off lines under the base. The shop of George W. Duey (1831-1903) and James Madison Shinnick (1813-1881). 1870-1889. 12" H, 6 3/8" D base.Condition Replaced handle, back with a V-shape hairline at the base and some small filled stone pops, all-over light crazing, as made.
