STAMPED "J. KEISTER & CO / STRASBURG, VA." DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, "1/2" gallon capacity mark, cylindrical form with collared, squared rim and incised shoulder ring. Brushed cobalt dropped feather decoration below neck full round. Pottery of Jeremiah Keister (1829-1901), Strasburg, VA. 1857-1870. 8 7/8" H, 5 1/2" D rim.Literature: Mark as Comstock - Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, p. 289, fig. 5.243.Condition Having a Y-shaped rim hairline to back, a rim flake, and some usage wear including residue to interior. Manufacturing flaws including a slightly sloping rim, as made.
