OCULAR DEVIATION MEDICAL TREATMENT / PRISM LENS SPECTACLES, unusual and extraordinarily thick cut-and-polished colorless crystal/glass prisms glued together via old discolored adhesive, prism lenses removable/interchangeable from unmarked white metal bottom-only trial lens frames, accompanied by original custom case marked for Philadelphia optician firm Bonschur & Holmes. Late 19th/early 20th century. 7 1/4" L case.Catalogue Note: As best we can discover, this unusual set of spectacles seems to have been used in at-home attempts to treat and/or measure heterophoria, evidently a very severe case given the angle of these prisms, with each marked "20" (diopters?) and additional reinforcement needed from a second prism/sliver being attached.Condition Very good condition overall, glasses with light to moderate chipping along cut edges of lenses and significant discoloration to old glue/adhesive, case with age-related cracking and minor losses to surface but with intact and functional button clasp.
