Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt People Decoration, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front with a brushed cobalt design of a woman standing beside a tree, and on the reverse with a larger design of a brushed woman. Front of jar impressed with distinctive three-gallon Thompson Pottery capacity mark. Fry to cobalt, more significant on reverse side. Thin spider cracks on underside. Three shallow chips to interior of rim.
