AMERICAN REDWARE / EARTHENWARE INKWELL, manganese- and lead-glazed cylindrical hollow body of unusual two-piece construction with domed top, having three quill holes around shoulder, and a central opening which was plugged before firing with a separately-thrown cylindrical inset well with its own tooled rim. Possibly Pennsylvania. First half 19th century. 2" H, 2 7/16" D.Condition Excellent condition with some flaking or shallow chipping around base edge, and some nicking around quill holes and the rim of the recessed well.
