CONTINENTAL CERAMIC MOTORIST / AVIATOR FIGURAL HUMIDORS, LOT OF FOUR, comprising three head-form examples including an aviator wearing a leather helmet, one wearing motorist goggles, and one wearing a hat and fur-lined coat, three having sponge holder top. Marks to underside include one impressed "JM" and most with various numerals. Johann Maresch, Austria or Czechoslovakia; and others. First half 20th century. 8 1/8" HOA.Literature: Parallels Horowitz - Figural Humidors, Mostly Victorian, aviator and motorist with goggles p. 13, fig. second and third from left and full-bodied example p. 74, fig. 338.Condition Motorist with goggles undamaged, except most having some scattered glaze wear/losses; head with fur-lined coat having hat with chip to underside of brim and some discoloration and a painted over flake to collar, probably as made; aviator having restoration to chip and paint touch-ups on underside of helmet; full-bodied example having professional restoration to base.
