The obverse hosts a "USA" monogram derived from similar devices found on pewter uniform buttons during the American Revolution. The reverse shows thirteen horizontal bars representing the states. Of postwar British origin, this very rare private issue of coinage is highly coveted and has fascinated many generations of numismatists. Private North Carolina CollectionThe present example has glossy dark brown surfaces throughout. Our photographs, however, are intentionally lighter in color so as to reveal the coin's design.
