ASSORTED VICTORIAN AND ART NOUVEAU STYLE LORGNETTES, LOT OF EIGHT, each folding, various metal handle or case styles including a few silver plate examples one of which has repousse-decorated lilies and "1907" engraving at front with a monogram engraved at its rear, one in a felt-backed clamshell outer case, a gunmetal example with inset seed pearls and "KETCHAM & MCDOUGALL" retractable-chain button/brooch, and an example with mother-of-pearl handle which will not open. Various makers. Late 19th/early 20th century. 5" LOA.Literature: J. William Rosenthal - Spectacles and Other Vision Aids, p. 128 figs. 244-249, text on p. 119.Condition Good to excellent condition, several with some bending or dents and many with minor or moderate losses to plated surfaces and/or corrosion and tarnish; smallest with heavy green oxidation, a couple pearls missing from gunmetal example, and mother-of-pearl handled example with seemingly some breaks to clasp components preventing it from opening.
