Each is 13x16". Artworks were produced for the Chicago American. First cartoon is dated 1963 and features caricature of Kennedy signing bill regarding a military draft, w/text reading "Married Men Are Exempt from Draft" as wedding bells ring in the distance and Cupid looks down on JFK from above. Second cartoon is dated 1967 and features a Democratic donkey looking into the mirror and seeing a sullen LBJ in his reflection. Johnson was growing increasingly unpopular by 1967 as the Vietnam War dragged on, and the intimation is that the Democratic Party wanted to distance itself from its unpopular standard bearer. A few pin holes in the corners, otherwise only light surface wear and handling. Overall still Exc. Vaughn Shoemaker, the artist who created these two original artworks, was a two-time Pulitzer winner for Editorial Cartooning, and was the creator of "John Q. Public" a character and term used to describe the "average American". An interesting pairing of history during the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations.
