1955 Irish Shilling in Brilliant Uncirculated GEM Condition This auction is for an Irish Shilling, or simply a bob as we used to call them, dated 1955. (Despite the shilling being gone from circulation for 40 years now, people in Ireland will still use the expression "here is a couple of bob for you" when they are giving someone loose change - in Euros!). The shilling features a Harp, Date and Éire on the obverse and a bull on the reverse. They are about the same size as the American quarter dollar or one Euro. Made from cupro-nickel this Shilling is in Brilliant Uncirculated GEM Condition and is a superb example. It came from a "Coins of Ireland" boxed mint set, so see the photos of the Actual Coin in the auction and judge for yourself! There were only 1,000,000 Irish shillings minted in 1955 and very few were collected at the time. This one came from a "Coins of Ireland" mint set. It is difficult to obtain these 1950s Irish coins in any half decent grade, but this is now your chance to get a top class well struck example! Coins and notes are normally shipped - securely packed in a reinforced envelope - within 24 hours of receipt of payment by Priority Airmail, and usually arrive in the US/Canada/Australia 5 to 8 days later, in Ireland in 1 day, the UK in 2 days, and to the rest of Europe in 2 to 5 days.
