Giants of Russian Literature Silver Coin Set from 1975. Leo Tolstoy, Alexander Pushkin and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Each coin is 1 ounce of Troy Silver. Only 2,000 made with certificate of authenticity. These medallions were originally commissioned by the Soviet Politburo as official state gifts for visiting high level dignitaries. Famous recipients of these medallions include Mikhail Gorbachev, Richard Nixon, Margaret Thatcher and Armand Hammer. Before the break-up of the Soviet Union, these medallions were unavailable to collectors and to remove them from the USSR was illegal. Serial No. 0708. Comes in wooden collectors box.
