Connecticut Copper , 1787 , Draped Bust Left, PCGS Fine 12, Brown Sometimes called Colonial Coins, they are actually tokens ( as opposed to legal tender ) Obverse is the draped bust of a man facing left with the words - Auctori: Connec, (Authorized by Connecticut ) Reverse is seated Liberty holding olive branch of peace and " Inde: Etlib " and date. Each was to be six pennyweight of copper and used as change for small purchases. Struck from 1785 - 1788. Over 350 distinct die varieties are known to exist. PCGS population ( 46/353 ) , NGC census ( 43/425 )
