Description from US Mint: This is the first coin released in 2012 in the First Spouse Gold Coin Series and features Alice Paul. It is a one-half ounce 24-karat gold coin struck in proof quality, giving it a frosted foreground and a mirror-like background. The obverse features a portrait of Alice Paul with the inscription “ SUFFRAGIST .” The reverse depicts a participant marching in the suffrage parade, holding the flag and wearing a banner that says VOTES FOR WOMEN . This coin is encapsulated and packaged in a custom-designed, highly polished, dome-chested, lacquered hardwood presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. This marks the sixth year of the First Spouse Gold Coin Series, the United States Mint’s first coin program to feature our Nation’s first spouses. A minimum of four one-half ounce, $10 24-karat gold coins will be minted and released annually in the order the spouses served in the position. In general, the gold coins issued to accompany any President who served without a spouse feature a design emblematic of Liberty on its obverse, as depicted on a U.S. coin issued during the President's time in office.
