1.75". No maker. This is the mate to the previous lot, Mantle button. Both are rare and desirable buttons for one of the baseball's most storied events. This historic race for the home-run total ended in September when Mantle suffered an injury, but Maris continued hitting home-runs including (at the time) the record-breaking 61st on October 1, 1961. Roger Maris began his Major League baseball career in 1957 with the Cleveland Indians for two seasons followed by a two year stint with the Kansas City Athletics before coming to the New York Yankees in 1960. For the next three seasons, Maris would be one of the most dominant hitters in baseball, including his incredible '61 season breaking Babe Ruth's single season home run record of 60, which had stood since 1927. Faint trace of oxidation to the metal back. Front is bright and glossy. Exc. Only a few examples known of each button.
