2-5/16x2.75". Set of 48. ACC# 21. Card fronts feature color art, descriptive text backs. Cards depict subject matter from the Ripley archives such as: Greatest Swordsman, Cruise Of The Skeletons, Holy Scorpion Eater, A Record In Cannibalism, The Hanging Hindu, The Tower Of Skulls, Faith Unto Death. Key card #34 is for boxing legend John L. Sullivan. This one of only two card issues by Wolverine, the other is Strange True Stories from 1936 (see previous lot for wrapper). The CGC grades for the set breakdown as follows- 7 NM(4), 6.5 EX-Mint+(3), 6 EX-Mint(9), 5.5 EX+(9), 5 EX(7), 4.5 VG-EX+(5), 4 VG-EX(3), 3.5 VG+(1), 3 VG(2), 2.5 Good+(1), 2 Good(3) and 1.5 Fair(1). The set has a total GPA of 5. Set comes w/5x6.5" wax paper wrapper w/image of "The Ghost Ship" which is also featured on card #13. Wrapper has faint trace of creases as originally folded but has been kept flattened and very well preserved over the years, so appearance is quite exceptional and displays NM. A coveted non-sport issue and rarely offered as a set and w/the wrapper. John Grossman Collection.
