Yashica YashicaMat 124G 6x6 120/220 TLR 'RED SNAKE' I was walking in the city last weekend and saw a guy taking photos with a most beautiful Rolleiflex. I simply had to introduce myself and we had a wonderful converation. You would have similar experiences with this camera as it's such a show-stopper. The Yashica 124G was a replacement for the Yashica 124 in 1971. The styling opted for an all-black 'pro' look and a return to a leattte texture reminiscent of the original YashicaMat. Perhaps not surprisingly, it is the most popular model amongst users today, the reasons being the CdS meter, crank wind/shutter setting, the Yashinon lens and of course, the black pro look......pictures are the same but the ego feels better. However, if you're on a budget why not consider one of the earlier Yashica models...they're all absolutely superb............just compare the results with ANY modern digital camera and the results speak for themselves! The 124G has a coupled CdS meter which is activated by raising the viewfinder hood. It has the superior Yashinon f/3.5 80mm taking lens in a Copal-SV B 1-500 shutter and a bright f/3.2 Yashinon viewing lens. 120 film for 12 exposures or 220 film for 24 exposures can be used and it's simply a matter of sliding the internal film pressure plate to select the film type; this has the effect of setting
