Two original 6 page and one page WWII letters on Vets. ofForeign Wars and American Red Cross stationary written to US Air Corps Flight Nurse Lt. Rose Landsman from her future Husband Lt Gerald E Miller, APO 264, Jan 26, 1944.The letter is signed and censored by Lt Gerald Miller and Lt. Miller has also signed the envelope as the censor. In this letter Lt Miller writes to Lt Landsman about APO #264 and telling her that he is a little drunk and he want to tell her allthe things hecan't tell herwhat he is sober. Both Lt. Rose Landsman (Miller) and her husband Lt Gerald E Miller were Jewish officers.The first letter starts with this:Babe Darling,As you started out - don't mind me I am slightly drunk - only I'am more then slightly -I'm crocked to the girls - blame the Navy if you want to because that's where I am now - I started out in tending to playing bridge tonite but this afternoon I took off + came over here - LCTFlotiela 14 - we started to drink about 4 o'clock and night came. I am just about able to write - as you can plainly see. There's are six of us here now - two sober + four drunk the rest of the boys are discussing serious topics - I think I'm slowly drinking myself into obscurity. Ever so often I hear something that interest me so I get into the discussion ....The first letter ends:Good night my dearest please please take care of yourself that's all that matters that's all that worries me is that you should be all right.I love you darling, JerryThese letters have good content and Lt Miller is an excellent writer. Included with this letter are many recently printed glossy photos of Lt. Rose Landsman in her uniform plus some copies of official membership cards. Also included with the letter and photos is a DVD with 50 documents and photos relating to Lt Landsman and WW2 US Flight Nurses and Army Nurses. Lt. Rose Landsman was one of the more famous Flight Nurses of WWII and saw duty all over the pacific theater including but not limited to Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Saipan, Guam, Okinawa, Tarawa, Hawaii, Kwajalein…… She received many awards including the Army Air Corps Air Metal in 1945.One of the photos I will include is her receiving the Air Metal.I have found Lt. Landsman Air Metal citation on the internet and the award reads:"Awarded by the Commanding General Army Air Force, Pacific Ocean Area. The fallowing named officer. Army Nurse Corp for meritorious Achievement in flight during the period of August 1, 1944 to 15 of March 1945, As Flight Nurse aboard Medical Air Evacuation transport planes. Participated in numerous long over water flights returning battled casualties to hospitals in the rear area, Her devotion to duty and untiring effort reflect great credit upon her and the Army Nurse Corp.”Lt. Rose L Miller was born in Massena, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rabbi Chiam & Maggie (Mollie) Rudnick Landsman. Rose graduated from the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1937 and worked at the hospital until 1942. During that time she became a pilot and soloed.She entered the US Air Corp of Nursing and then volunteered to be a pioneer in Flight Nursing through the Army Air Corp and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. In February of 1945, she married Lt Gerald Miller somewhere in the Pacific who was in the Army Signal Corp.There is a Youtube video of Lt. Landsman (Rose L Miller, New York State Military Museum) being interviewed in which she tells of her wartime experiences. In the video she reads the Presidential Executive Order that won Lt. Landsman the Army Air Corps Air Metal, the interview is an 1½ hours long.In a Nov 5, 2009 interview Lt. Landsman states this about flying:“In between our flights, it might have seemed we had a lot of time off because for every twelve hours in the air you had to be on the ground a full two days.
