This nine inch dark brown transfer plate is entitled Cologne. The river scene features a small castle-like building on the waters. It is framed by elms. In the distance are mountains. The most interesting part of this lovely plate is the surround - peacock feathers between floral reserves. The rim is irregularly scalloped. It bears the pottery's cartouche and initials. The potter is Wood and Challinor who potted from 1834 through 1843. The design was first made in the Ralph Stevenson pottery who must have provided the design to the Wood and Challinor firm.
