This rare whaling mincing knife is 40 inches long, and has both of its wooden handles which are saturated with whale oil. The handles are 8 inches. The blade is 2 feet long by 2 3/4 inches wide. The handles are connected to the blade by brass fixtures. One of the wooden handles is missing a small piece of the wood. One of my pictures shows this. The maker's mark has been "sharpenned off". This mincing knife has obviously been on many whaling voyages and used to cut the leaves of many blubber "books" for the try pot. Many sharpennings have reduced the blade to it's present width. This rare whaling tool has witnessed a lot of history. ************* Please note that I use the public library for my internet access.
