Bidders/Collectors: Description: 1 World War II gendaito Japanese Army Officer's samurai sword in exceptional condition available. It is difficult to find a shin-gunto sword in this condition. This sword was made early in the War. This army gendaito sword was traditionally made ( water-tempered , and made from tamahagane ). This sword was made by Masayasu . (Mano) Masayasu placed in the 4th seat class at the 1941 Sword Exhibition. This WWII Japanese army officer's sword would make an important addition to any collection. *** Now with lots of additional photos--scroll down to see additional photographs. *** The nakago (blade tang) is signed ' BISHU JU MANO MASAYASU KITAU KORE '. The blade measures 26 1/16" (66.2 cm), as measured from the blade tip to the bottom of the notch in the mune (spine). Unlike many other gendai blades, this sword was made using all of the traditional methods. This sword was made from tamahagane. A distinct hada (grain) is visible in the blade. In fact, the purchaser of this sword will discover a finer hada than I was able to get to show in the photos. This sword is mounted in high quality, early World War II Shin-gunto military mountings. This sword has eight seppa. All fittings have the matching assembly number '32' on them. This sword has a fine company grade Officer's tassel that still has all of its original brilliant color. The early War clasped hands sarute (lanyard loop) is of the highest quality with gold gilt, and a stippled finish with a cherry blossom on each side. The saya (scabbard) is an early War lightweight aluminum version with a fine spatter-lacquer finish, and premium fittings. Condition: This traditionally made WW2 Japanese Army officer's sword is in rare condition . In fact, a collector would have to look for a while to find a sword in better condition. There is but one tiny nail catcher nick in the edge. The blade is perfectly straight. There is no pitting anywhere on the blade. There are but a few small spots of carbon staining--these are so slight, they are more unmentionable than mentionable. All fittings are in exceptional condition. The lightweight aluminum saya has no dents , and only minor paint scratches. All fittings on the saya are in perfect condition--and all fittings' screws are intact, and in perfect condition. This is a high-quality WW2 gendaito sword that was traditionally-made using the old methods. This sword has premium fittings , a fine tassel and sarute , and is in exceptionally rare condition .
