American Eagle cast-iron mechanical bank. Put the coin in the Eagles beak, push down on the "Don't Tread On Me" snake lever, and the Eagle drops the coin into the nest as if it is feeding the baby chicks. I believe this is supposed to symbolize America as the Eagle supporting Puerto Rico and Cuba, as represented by the baby chicks. It also has some sort of animal (snake?) on one side, probably symbolic of the Eagle protecting these two chicks from a foreign threat. The Eagle has applied glass eyes.This is a great piece of Americana, and the bottom is marked Reproduced From Original in Collection of the BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE PAT. JAN 23 1883".
