Vintage Zodiac LIBRA etched intaglio pendant

Zodiac pendant LIBRA (September 23 to October 23) For your consideration is a stunning, vintage, cabachon. A West German glass piece, etched intaglio, of the Zodiac, LIBRA, in a georgeous rose color glass piece. This cabachon is over 50 years old. The size is a 14mm by 10mm oblong glass cabachon. It is in great condition, a very clear Libra emblem done in gold relief etching and all hand painted. This terrific rose pink glass piece is in wonderful vintage condition. It features a flat table top surface, faceted sides and a pointed back, cut much like a gem stone. It comes complete with a hanging hook ready to put on your favorite chain to wear! VERY RARE. My picture does not do this piece justice! It is so stricking and displays excellent workmanship, the kind not seen anymore. Each gold etched emblem has been individually and tediously hand painted. This is a georgeous pendant and is quite a conversation piece when worn. It is a perfect piece, something vintage and unusual, and something you don't see much of anymore. All of the vintage cabachons are extremely rare, but I have never seen this piece before. These cabachons were sometimes called intaglios, rosettes, reverse crystals or "Cabs". Thy date back to the 1940's and 1950's (maybe even the 30's!) and are extremely rare and highly collectible. These "cabs" or cabachons contain intaglio images or scenes. Each piece was hand painted into a reverse carved image. These amazing pieces of art were first manufactured during the Victorian era. Because they are so tiny and intricate it is difficult to manufacture them today. Current high manufacturing costs make producing these crystals cost prohibitive. As a result, these crystals have become sought after rarities and collectors items. Anything available now has surviv ed over the years and is not a new item.
