Large Egg Coddler Solid White Measures 2 3/4 wide and 4" tall with lid. Vintage porcelain egg coddler with chrome metal lid and ring. This size can also be used to warm up an individual serving of baby food.It is believed they actually invented the egg coddler in the late nineteenth century. These Cups have screw-on chrome lids with a loop on top designed to lift them out of the boiling water. Egg can be eaten out of the porcelain cup. While it specifies "coddled eggs" these cups could be used as an Egg Poacher, similar methods.Egg coddler is in excellent condition, near mint, without cracks, nicks, chips or crazingAn egg coddler is a porcelain cup with a lid that is used to prepare coddled eggs. Coddled eggs are very much like poached eggs, except that the egg is cooked inside the coddler. The eggs are broken into the buttered coddler, and seasonings are added, if desired. The coddler is then closed with the lid and partially immersed in boiling water for a few minutes. When the eggs are cooked to the desired firmness, the coddler is lifted from the boiling water, the lid removed, and breakfast is served!
