This is one of the most beautiful chintz cups and saucers ever. BUT......there is a crack in the cup, unfortunately. Even so, it is rare enough and beautiful enough to make a nice cabinet or shelf piece, especially if you collect the Royal Winton Atlas Bone China chintz or teacups with flower handles. The pattern is "Bedale", which is the yellow version of Royal Winton's most popular pattern called "Summertime". This set is made of bone china, rather than the usual earthen ware and it features the chintz pattern on the inside of the cup as well as the outside. Makes it harder to see that nasty crack! The backstamp says "GRIMWADES English Rideau Ware". The backstamp also indicates that it was made for Henry Birks & Sons Ltd. Henry Birks had a chain of high end jewelry stores in Canada. The hand painted reference in the back stamp would be for the scalloped foot and the rosebud handle. This is a full sized teacup and saucer. The saucer measures 5 5/8" across and the cup stands 2 5/8" tall. The crack is opposite the handle and can be felt easier than it can be seen.
