$5 PRICE DROP!The Tricky Taxi was created and produced by the Louis Marx Co. in the 1930's and its popularity continued through the fifties. Wind up the clockwork motor and release the car on a square edged surface. As it speeds over to seemingly run off the edge, it abruptly changes direction and stays on the surface to repeat the action at another edge. Great fun!This BLACK and WHITE version of the 4"” long tin toy car was designed with the classic streamlining popular at the time. Even the beautifully chrome plated grille assembly has a streamlined "flow" to it.Although both rear wheels rotate only the left rear drives the toy. The right rear wheel is free-wheeling with its axle extended out just slightly farther than the body of the car. It was used to pivot and/or follow the outline of any upright object; but the primary “Tricky” concept is that the front of the car slides along on a protrusion in the base, (keeping the non-functional embossed and painted on front wheels and a small hidden transverse drive wheel off the ground), until it tips over the edge. When that happens, the hidden drive wheel makes contact and swiftly turns the car.
