This is a wonderful listing for a pair of Lalique Styx perfume bottles made in France during the 1970's.The large bottle measures approximately 5.5 inches in height and 1.5 inches in diameter.The smaller bottle measures approximately 4.25 inches in height and 1.25 inches in diameter.This is a stunning pair of vintage perfume bottles, that still retain the delicate warm gold tones in the incised Art Deco design on the stoppers. These would be a fantastic gift, either to yourself or for a loved one, especially if they make their own perfume or essential oils- It is never too early to start thinking about the holidays!Each bottle is marked with Coty and signed made in France, the larger of the two is etched with 1977 in the bottom corner which allows for easy dating! I love decorating and displaying vintage perfume bottles in a bathroom or on a vanity. They act as usable art and they give an elegant touch to any space- it's fun to look at them and try to interpret what story the company was trying to portray to the buyer or imagine the elegant begins these small works of art had- and where they will go next.Although I work with antiques and estates, I also work for one of the World's largest fragrance retailers. I spend a large portion of my day learning and educating, both myself and my team, and a large amount of our time on Fragrance revolves around the 'The Story of The Bottle'. What that means is, what is the manufacturer trying to say about the scent to its audience before they smell what is inside. It's fun with these wonderful vintage bottles, to sit down and try and imagine the story they were telling as they take on a new life and story in your own home.The bottles in this listing were produced for Coty Incorporated in the 1970's by the Lalique company. Coty was founded in 1904 by Francois Coty who launched in first fragrance in 1905. The success of that first fragrance enabled Coty to open his first store in Paris in 1908. That store acted as both retail and laboratory for development, employing a predominantly large female work force, the company successfully launched a new trend that we still enjoy today; mass produced, high end fragrances that are obtainable to all classes. The company continued to grow and to this day owns 77 subsidiary companies ranging from skin care, to cosmetics, to fragrances and fashion.During the growth and initial development of Coty's ideas for mass high-end fragrance production the French bass company began to collaborate with an already established French Designer, Rene Lalique, to manufacture; bottles, labels and packaging, forming a very close union in 1909 that carried on for decades.The Lalique Company was founded by renowned glass and jewelry designer Rene Lalique in 1888. Rene, having been a jewelry apprentice since age 16, went out on his own and began free-lance design. His skills and fine craftsman's ship awarded him recognition and work from two of the most prestigious jewelry houses in France; Cartier and Boucheron. Eventually Lalique opened his own shop and began to differentiate himself from his competitors by also producing and selling one of a kind art glass in his shop along with his jewelry.
