I believe this sketch is related to the Irish famine of the mid-1800's. It features a poor Irish family walking away from their village with nothing. (It may be a "sister piece" to my other framed Lignante sketch.) It is mostly in black/white but there are some bits of hand-coloring. I'm not sure if it was a newspaper (political) sketch. It appears to be an original piece, signed by Lig (the auction company said the name was Lignante or Ligante). I don't know a lot about the artist. I got this piece at the auction of an Irish performer (many many years ago), and she had many original Irish history pieces. The sketch is powerful when put into context of that time. It was professionally framed (the label on the back) and frame shows a a bit of wear (or is meant to look distressed), the glass is non-glare. The part of the print that you can see measures roughly 12-1/4" by 10-1/8". It has a wide mat around the print. The frame measures roughly 18-13/16" by 20-11/16". Please see scans.
