VINTAGE CORDEY CYBIS PORCELAIN POWDER/TRINKET BOX - RARE For your consideration is this vintage marked and numbered trinket/powder box made by The Cordey China Company of Trenton, New Jersey founded by Boleslaw Cybis in 1942. This rare trinket box is 4-1/2" in diameter at its widest and stands approximately 3" tall overall. It has the Cordey signature and number as well as an impressed identification number (although this has become very faint). It has the trademark gold scrolls and lace around the three flower appliques on the lid. One piece of the lace is chipped, but is difficult to discern until you look very closely (picture 4). Also, one of the leaves has a small chip (picture 2), as is common for Cordey. Cordey pieces were characterized by old-world charm, gold Rocco scrolls, delicate floral appliques, ruffles and real lace which was dipped in liquified clay to add dimension to the work. Although on rare occasions some items were not numbered or signed, most pieces were cast both with numbers and the Cordey signature. The molded pieces were then individually decorated and each marked with its own impressed identification number as well as a mark to indicate the artist-decorator.
