Vintage ALVA Museum Replicas Columbian Bee Amulet Brooch and Pendant ComboThe brooch is marked "Alva Studio" and comes with the original box and paperwork.The pendant / brooch measures 2 inches by 1 1/2 inch.The amulet has been well-maintained and cared for over the years. It is in excellent vintage condition.Amulet.The original is of gold, from Colombia, Darien Style, about A.D.This gold amulet shows a strong sense of balanced design. Tiny scrolls edge the wings and appear again on top of the flattened twin domes. This bee like shape was repeated in many of the ornaments made in this district, some large, some small, and all of them, no doubt, of symbolic significance.The goldsmiths here were distinguished for the excellence of their workmanship. Spiral ornamentation was one of the popular details of their work, a style which is to be noted in various pre-Colombian centers.Gold in Colombia was taken from the river beds in the form of nuggets and grains which were melted and worked by hammering or casting. The craftsmen who created these objects many centuries ago were familiar with all the techniques of working with this ductile metal.
