Vintage Chinese Watercolor Mountain Waterfall Wall Scroll Painting Signed Asian.Chinese Zen Buddists used natural imagery to help contemplation within the walls of their studios. The complex beauty inherent to landscapes and natural forms inspired clear and concise thinking. In this hanging scroll, water streams down the mountains a waterfall an emblem of renewal, strength and of longevity. Guided by the gestural extensions of the calligraphic branches, the artist followed broad initial brushstrokes with delicately painted stems and flowers to create a carefully balanced composition. There is a bit of crinkling to the silk paper.I am sure this could be ironed out. The upper right corner has a spot/stain. See photo. It doesn't take away from the overall beauty. The purple wood cylinder is 27 inches, the paper 67 inches long by 24 inches wide. Very good condition for it's age.Waterfalls represent unharnessed elemental motion, the force-fields which one needs to master and control to one's spiritual benefit, not unlike the practice of Tantrism. The waterfall is also seen as a symbol of permanence of form despite change of content.. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
