Large-format magazine, measuring 12 3/4” x 9 3/4”; 124 pp. Cover exceptionally crisp and bright, with just some very light edge-wear, small penciled mark in the upper-left corner; spine solid, with a closed tear along the bottom of the front hinge; contents very clean and sharp, securely bound. A very good or better copy. Stylish, very deco cover by BENITO, showing an impossibly unflappable society couple -- a Gotham cubist-moderne version of "American Gothic." • Featuring artwork by HUGH FERRIS (a gorgeous architectural drawing of "Vanity Fair's New Home," the monolithic Greybar Building on Lexington Av between 43rd and 44th), COVARRUBIAS (a great two-page spread showing "Two Types of Orchestras, Ancient and Modern"), FISH (two pages on "The Families We Marry Into"), LEON UNDERWOOD, ADOLF DEHN, and BENITO again, with a study of whiskers. • Photographic highlights include STEICHEN (a lovely still-life with silk and wooden matches), VANDAMM (a witty portrait of Sacha Guitry and wife), Peter Powell (EDITH WHARTON: "Our Most Distinguished Ambassador to Europe"), and a wonderful full-page portrait of JOHN BARRYMORE as Francois Villon accompanied by a reproduction of the poster that Barrymore painted for a stage production of the Villon story years before, when he was an unknown, would-be illustrator. • Features
