Here’s a great piece of history. This is definitely a turn of the century UCV flag from the REUNION PERIOD.This flag is approximately 3’x5’ it’s 35” by 59”. It’s made of a course linen with a linen header. Headers usually had a canvas header so this is rarer than other pieces of the time. This practice of linen headers is from the end of the 19th Century and ended by WW1.Manufactures stopped making linen flags in lieu of cotton flags around WW1. Linen is a stiff material and the fibers are much longer than that of a cotton flag.Flag manufactures around 1920, starting to aline the stars with the Saltire or St Andrews Cross. As you can tell on this piece, the stars are off set and not pointing directly down.The star orientation along with the materials used to make this flag, shows that this piece is definitely from the turn of the century, no later than WW1. So this piece was made between 1900 and 1917. It’s most likely towards WW1 because there was a lot of patriotic fervor.This UCV Civil War Flag has seen a lot. It’s was respected. There is evidence of being displayed. So this piece was used and still here for us to admire.This IS NOT AN IMPORT. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL.
