One Gallon Moses Tyler Albany, New York ovoid stoneware jug in wonderful stable condition, decorated with a traditional plow flower design in cobalt with cobalt highlighting in Maker's Mark from 1843-1847 period. Wonderful solid condition stands approximately 11 inches, some minor glazing (not cracks) likely from firing. From a private collection, felt pads left on bottom from display. Moses Tyler was an influential early Capital District Potter, taking over Calvin Boynton's Troy shop in 1826 with Charles Dillon, continuing after Dillon's departure until 1840. Tyler retired for a brief period reemerging in 1843 at his 237 Washington Street, Albany home until his death in 1847. A beautiful iconic form and great size and shape for display.
