This antique belt is made from black fabric, decorated with a silver filigree clasp or buckle and 20 silver sliding ornaments in a paisley-type shape, spaced along the belt. The fabric is not in great condition with numerous places on the underside and edges being very worn—not unexpected, given the age. The whole belt measures 28.5 inches around when clasped. The clasp or buckle is 5.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. Each metal filigree ornament � is 2 to 2.25 inches tall but they vary because they are handmade. The back is a cut piece of metal (tin or plated copper?). It may have been for daily wear but it looks as if it were for ceremonial dancing. I am not an expert, but I'm pretty sure� it came from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, or somewhere in the Middle East. Collectors of antique or vintage belly dancing items will find this belt fascinating. It would look interesting in a shadowbox frame. Or, if disassembled, the individual pieces could be treated as antique jewelry findings and made into other items.� Please note that I only accept Paypal and that payment must be made within two days from date of purchase or item will be relisted.
