A fascinating account of life and customs in the Bechuanaland Protectorate prior to WWI by a young police lieutenant, Arnold Hodson who was a proficient hunter and so went everywhere on his quests. Essentially his travels were in the true Kalahari from Kanye to Lehutuu through to Lake Ngami and up to the then border with German SW Africa.This is the 3rd edition of 1914 and has 5 maps, hand-drawn and 85 photo plates. The map at the back of the volume of 359 pages is huge and folds out to 530x 440mm.All maps and plates are in good condition. The binding is tight, with signs of age wear. There is some trivial foxing on the edges of some pages and an inscription showing it was a gift for Christmas 1919.The young lieutenant became better known as Sir Arnold Wienholt Hodson, later governor of the Falklands, Sierra Leone and the Gold Coast.
