Very Rare Trans Mississippi International Exposition Photo Ticket book that belonged to a person of importance named James Henry Kyner who wrote a couple books about his experience in the Civil War and was a Railroad Magnate. It also contains his photo and signature. See information below on this man from find a .This is from the 1898 event that was held in Omaha, NE. It has a lot of tickets left in it. Some have been ripped out, but it goes all of the way up to ticket 49.Of interest to post Civil War enthusiasts and collectors of the Trans Mississippi Expo.Overall good condition. Please study images.Birth: Sep. 28, 1846LancasterFairfield CountyOhio, USA Death: Feb. 9, 1936BladensburgPrince George's CountyMaryland, USAJames Henry KynerEnlisted in the Union Army. 45th Ohio Regiment 10 October 1861 when 15 years old. Attached to the 5th Division commanded by General William Tecumseh Sherman, a friend of his parents, John Conrad and Nancy Gunder. Nancy was the daughter of George Daniel Gunder and Sophia Duck. James lost his right leg below the knee in the battle of Pittsburg Landing (Shiloh) April 6, 1862 at 16Wrote "End of Track" with Hawthorne Daniel, a complete record of his battle at Shiloh as well as his life history. Published by Caxton Printers, abridged paperback by University of Nebraska Press. He also published "Odes, Hymns and Songs of the G.A.R." (Grand Army of the Republic), recently reissued in 2010.He homesteaded in NB in 1870 on a 160 acre claim on Spring Branch near Norfolk, NB. In that year, he saw the last great buffalo migration and 3000 Ponca Indians camped on the Elkhorn River across from his homestead.In 1871, James' brother, Daniel Gunder Kyner , and his sisters Nancy Ann Kyner Daniel , and Elizabeth Jane Kyner Bartlett, came to Nebraska and lived in the house on the claim. His parents also joined them that same year.In 1876, he married Naomi Conrad, in Fairfield County, Ohio.In 1878, they all moved to Omaha where James Kyner was elected to the legislature in 1881. He served a second term in 1887.In 1881, he began first railroad building. In the Loup River Valley, in central NB, for 25 miles N and W from St. Paul; then 8 miles which ended 5 miles down Wood River from Shoshone; then 30 miles between Mountain Home and Boise, ID; then at Buena Vista, CO. Graded hills down 3 miles S of Omaha for meat packing center; also some of Omaha's streets. Had $250,000 in Omaha properties besides other possessions, but lost everything.After his wife's death in 1895, he and his sons borrowed money and then prospered. He moved to Bladensburg, MD where he purchased a house built in 1746, called Bostwick.On February 1, 1899, he married his second wife, Ruth Johanna Hettie Parker. They had one daughter, Susanna Parker Kyner in 1903.James H. Kyner, a railroad magnate, purchased Bostwick in 1904 and made considerable repairs to the building and grounds. His daughter, Susanna, grew up in the house, marrying Felix Cristofane. Susanna Cristofane subsequently would become mayor of the town, as would her daughter, Susanna Yatman, who lived in Bostwick until 1997.In 1997, Bostwick was purchased by the Town of Bladensburg. The purchase was made possible through a State Bond Grant and a Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Grant.
