Marks and age : On the reverse of this lovely covered vegetable dish is a black variation of backstamp number 34 of Theodore Haviland, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century, that was in use between 1904 and sometime in the 1920s. Source: Third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston .Design : In keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made the company's porcelain so famous, and so coveted, the dish and lid are finely hand painted with delicate pink roses and tiny blue flowers, richly trimmed in gold. Tiny turquoise enamels on the handles and edges add an additional touch of distinction.Many of the great Limoges companies produced variations of the classic and hugely popular pattern of pink roses against a pure white background. That means this dish would easily blend into similar sets by many other Limoges makers. And of course, it would make an impressive display on its own.Size : The base is 6 5/8 inches wide and 9 1/2 inches long at the opening. It's 2 1/2 inches tall, measured at the center. The lid adds about 2 1/4 inches to the height.Condition : The bowl and lid are in excellent condition for their age with no nicks, cracks, repairs, scratches, crazing or utensil marks.
