Swan & States, Stonington, Connecticut 3 Gallon Jug with Reeded Neck Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, America's Source for Antique Stoneware , is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "Swan & States, Stonington." This is the mark of Ichabod States and Joshua Swan, Jr. who ran the pottery in Stonington from 1823-1835 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 57) This beauty sports an Ear ly Ovoid Form with Reeded Neck and the Pottery Mark with Cobalt Wash . Cobalt accents at the handle terminals as well. A marvelous early jug! Stands 15 1/2" tall. Excellent Condition. Small glaze chips around the spout (1/8" to 1/4"), chips on the right side that are partly in the making (closeup), chipping around the base, and some staining from use that is mainly on the bottom half. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration . A few stone pings in the making. Please view the full gallery of pictures as part of the description.
