Offering the SWAMP THING WINTER SPECIAL, written by Tom King and Len Wein, illustrated by Jason Fabok and Kelley Jones, published in 2018 by DC.One of the sadder bits of news in 2017 was the deaths of Berni Wrightson and Len Wein, two tremendously talented comic book creators whose paths intersection close to 50 (!) years ago with the creation of Swamp Thing. This 80-page one-shot serves as a loving tribute to the durability of that creation and the original vision of its creators.You get two stories. The first, by King and Fabok, is haunting and enigmatic in a way that is becoming King's trademark. In fact, I would say that King writes the kinds of stories that benefit from - actually DEMAND - multiple readings.The second story is even more special. It was illustrated by Jones from Wein's plot. It was intended to be the first issue of a new ongoing series starring Swamp Thing, spinning out of the miniseries they had done more than a year ago. Wein never had the chance to script it, so DC made the decision the publish the art - without any lettering - and then including Wein's plot. It's a measure of Jones' skill as a writer that you can actually get a pretty good sense of the story without any lettering, but the plot indicates how Wein was able to touch on rich points of story and character.In the back of this book are tributes
