SUPERB RARE DOULTON BURSLEM ORCHID PORCELAIN COMPORT, SIGNED DAVID DEWSBERRY This is another item from the fine and rare collection of Doulton Burslem Orchid cabinet plates and comports/stands all signed by David Dewsberry. They are all in excellent condition due to being stored in a display cabinet for many years. All made of fine porcelain with gilt decoration to the edge. Dewsberry joined Doulton in 1889 and his favourite flower was the orchid. He studied the different varieties in the conservatories of the Duke of Sutherland and other famous orchid growers. He painted his beautiful botanical studies on cabinet plates and vases and was acknowledged as the finest painter of orchids the industry and had ever known. On the back of each piece there are titles, marks and the Doulton Burslem backstamp. I have included plenty of close up photos so you can see all the details. It states they were manufactured for 'Phillips, 175 Oxford Street, London'. They all date from around the late 19th century/circa 1900. All in excellent condition and each piece signed D.Dewsberry. There are ten plates and two comports/stands in total and I will list them all individually. Size: 23 1/2 cm diameter. Height 10 1/2 cm. Weight 582 grams.
