Overall this Blue & White Avenue of Trees pitcher will be an outstanding compliment to any collection of quality Blue & White! This pitcher was produced from 1899 - 1910 by the J.W. McCoy Pottery Company, Ohio, it stands 5-1/2 inches tall with bottom diameter of 5 inches. The pitcher is a classical piece joined from two molds; the handle is applied.On both sides the embossed scene is of a two-track road leading up to a gate, the road is flanked on either side by rows of trees. On the front under the pinch spout there are two classic columns (somewhat reminiscent of Greek columns), on the back, on either side of the handle the column features are also found. The mold crispness clearly defines the desired scene.The inside is pure Bristol glaze, the outside is also Bristol glazed with a powder blue tint encircling the top and bottom.CONDITION: It could use a bath, particularly the inside, but I’ll leave that joy for the new owner. There is a crow’s foot on the inside bottom, one must look really close to spy it from the outside but it is there. On one of the inside crow’s foot there is a 1-1/2+/- line going up, and on the inside bottom, encircling the bottom rim, there is a 2+/- inch line. These lines are truly of no consequence. They have all been in place for decades and do not adversely affect the integrity of this pitcher. At one time the handle cleanly separated off the pitcher body and has been reattached, could have been a professional job but the blue used is just slightly a different shade of blue from the rest of the pitcher.I find no chips, flakes, bruises, slobbers, goobers, boogers, bumps, slimes, or other repairs; it’s as sturdy and robust as the day it was made and displays quite well.I understand nothing beats “Hands On” examination and I’ve provided the best description accompanied with photos I possibly can. This piece are not new, it is right at 100+ years old and in very good used condition and any bidding should be borne with this in mind.
