Kenner Starting Lineup - 1988 UNCIRCULATED FIRST EDITION!BALTIMORE ORIOLES - CAL RIPKEN JR. AFA U70We (Kenner) introduced our STARTING LINEUP line of collectible sports action figures in the 1988 Toy Fair catalog (pages 98-105). This is a FIRST EDITION figure from an UNOPENED BALTIMORE ORIOLES CASE ASSORTMENT. And because of that - it is graded UNCIRCULATED U70 (EX+) by AFA. NOTE: The only noteworthy flaw I see are some "pinch" marks in the upper left quadrant, visible if you glance light off the card.Figures graded as UNCIRCULATED by AFA are extremely rare, especially for action figures from the 1980s and earlier. AFA created the designation for items from UNOPENED CASE PACKS around 2001. It might not be so unusual for unopened cases of modern figures to be sent in for grading, BUT THIS IS FROM AN UNOPENED CASE OF BALTIMORE ORIOLES , SITTING AROUND SINCE 1988!As a former Kenner employee myself, I obtained this case assortment directly from a friend and co-worker who was a Senior Vice President of Marketing. Kenner executives were given product samples from early production runs. Some took them home and stored them away. This man's career in the toy industry had him eventually moving across the country about 5 times, moving his toy collection with him. When he approached me about buying his collection, I did.
