On November 11, 1990, Sotheby's held a spectacular event showcasing the soon to be auctioned artwork, furniture and decorative items from "The Greta Garbo Collection" at its New York headquarters. This benefit auction attracted important art collectors, socialites and dignitaries from around the world. On display were some of the magnificent items from Greta Garbo luxurious New York apartment that were auctioned on November 15, 1990. The benefit auction for the event featured a number of rare Cecil Beaton photographs of Greta Garbo that sold well in spirited bidding among the attendees.The cover of the invitation shows a relaxed Garbo seated with legs pulled up. The photograph is from April 1946 and taken at The Hotel Plaza in New York. This invitation up for auction is in pristine condition and includes the matching envelope that is unmarked. What makes this item unique and a sought after collectible? Besides the size (5 3/4 inches x 9 inches) and the beautiful Garbo image by Beaton on the cover surrounded by a pink border, this rare item is coveted by anyone seeking a comprehensive Garbo collection or just a passionate fan.
