Sankaat is very pleased to present for your consideration this Paris Porcelain studio cabinet plate in the Sevres Style! The thick gilt border is molded with panels containing oak branches (Acorns and Oak leaves being a symbol of the French Republic). A thin maroon enamel band accented with delicate gilt arrows, and a finely gilt scrolled motif surround the central signed hand painted scene of two lovers discussing a matter of importance. The artist M. Piccard ( a registered late 19th century Paris Studio artist) painted the scene with such depth and lifelike detail- that it invites the viewer to read into the scene. Judging by the gentleman's pleading expression, one knows the question or petition at hand bears a heavy importance with him. However, one only needs to look at the expression on the young woman's face to see that her answer does not seem affirmative. The hard paste porcelain body bears the mark of the original factory that created the piece and above that (As was traditional for the studios) the hand written name and address of the studio that decorated this plate. Measuring 10.5 inches wide- this plate is in excellent condition with only some minuscule gilt wear and crazing (not discolored) to the glaze in the center of the plate.
