This publication measures 21.6 by 27.9 cm and contains 40 pages with Editor-Publisher William G. Dulmaine, Jr. On the cover we see modern diesel electric power at Cedar Hill in a 1951 photo by Arthur E. Mitchell. W162 "WIRE TRAIN" fills 3 pages and publishes rave reviews from readers concerning Bixler and V13#2. Yes, it is a superb issue! Other subjects concern the detouring 20th Century Limited, Rockville Interurban, centrally pivoted semaphores and a C.A. Brown review of John H. White's "A Short History of American Locomotive Builders in the Steam Era". TROLLEY STOP by John R. Stevens in entitled THE VAN DEPOELE ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE AND THE DERBY HORSE RAILWAY and is the story of the first electric line to open in Connecticut on 01 May 1888. The four mile line was designed to be just another horse street railway, advertised as the Ansonia, Derby and Birmingham, but brave souls decided to try an electric locomotive which was barely out of the experimental stage as there were only 12 electric railways in North America at this time. This interesting article fills 5 pages and includes 9 photos and a listing of contemporary electric railway lines. The neatest part is that the 1888 motor still resides in Connecticut at the museum in Branford. Modeling the NEW HAVEN'S ALCO HH600 by Dick Pippin covers 5 pages with 5 prototype photos, 3 model photos by Jim Fournier, HO Scale drawings, and materials and paint schemes listings. THE NEW HAVEN IN ITS GOLDEN AGE by Herbert E. Bixler continues with New Haven Memories, Part 2, over 9 pages, including 13 relevant photographs from the Association's collection. Read this and you'll understand the rave reviews concerning Part 1 in the previous issue. THE CHARLES RIVER LINE by C.A. Brown is the story of the Woonsocket Branch and begins in 1847 with a line from Brookline to Dover, Massachusetts, that became the Charles River Branch RR. Basically this is the line that ran from Boston to Woonsocket and this definitive work covers 15 pages and includes 30 photographs, a map, a timetable reproduction and a very complex railroad genealogy chart as parts of the line passed from the CRBRR to the Charles River RR to the New York & Boston, then to the Boston, Hartford & Erie and on to the New York & New England, before going to the Boston & Albany, to then become part of the Highland Loop, and the rest eventually became part of the NYNH&H. The photos show depots at Newton Upper Falls; Needham Heights aka Avery; Needham Junction; Dover; Farm Street, Medfield Junction; Cliquot Station in Millis; Medway; Caryville; River Street in Woonsocket; Pascoag; Needham; Newton Highlands and Forest Hills.
